Visual effects and 3D animations for the film Murderers Bar by Lucy Raven.
For this project I worked closely with the artist to create visualizations of the river’s unseen depths by transforming Lidar scans intended purely for scientific data collection into animatable 3d models in Blender. Thanks to the Yurok Tribe’s Senior Project Engineer David Bandrowski for helping us access these records of the Klamath.
Videos and photos from Lucy Raven and my friends behind Mattazine Society . First slide is composer Deantoni Parks scoring the film live in Toronto.
Murderers Bar is the third installment in a series of works—alongside Ready Mix (2021), Demolition of a Wall (Album 1) (2022), and Demolition of a Wall (Album 2) (2022)—that explore themes of material state change, pressure, force, and cycles of violence in the (de- and re-)formation of the Western United States. The dam’s removal after more than 100 years, after decades of activism, testimony, and lawsuits by Tribal Nations including the Yurok Tribe, Karuk Tribe, Hoopa Valley Tribe, Klamath Tribes, Modoc Nation and the Shasta Indian Nation, is part of the biggest dam removal project in American history.
