Kaleidoscoping

Water as a cleansing, invigorating, distortional, and transitional space. Award winning thesis film from first year at Calarts released in 2019.

Kaleidoscoping is composed of  freehand character and rotoscope animation from underwater footage. Digitally animated in tvpaint and photoshop, then the frames from those animation sequences were formatted for risograph printing. The frames were separated into two color channels which were printed in fluorescent pink and RISO blue ink allowing for the unique purples and halftone gradients that appear throughout the movie. Each page of animation had sixteen frames, each roughly the size of a credit card. Each of these frames was individually registered and enlarged in post production to create the textured kinetic motion integral to the work. Please email to inquire about purchasing prints from the making of the film.
